blog short for web log - this term refers to a list of journal entries about personal opinions, activities, or experiences posted on a web page  
cloud computing storing and accessing fata and programs over the Internet instead of your computer's hard drive Google Drive, Dropbox
digital citizen someone who navigates the possibilities and pitfalls of the digital world safely, responsibly, and respectfully  
digital citizenship the practice of navigating the digital world safely, responsibly, and ethically   
digital curation the selection, preservation, maintenance, collection and archiving of digital resources Edmodo, LessonPaths, LiveBinders, Padlet, Symbaloo
flipped learning a model in which students access the directed teaching, usually at home through videos and other media.  Classroom time is spent applying skills through inquiry-based learning with teacher having more personalized guidance and interaction with students by facilitating rather than lecturing  
gamification a strategy for engaging students more deeply in learning through game design principles and mechanics  
hashtag a word or phrase preceded by the # that classifies or categorizes the accompanying text (such as a tweet)  
individualized learning  personalized and customized learning strategies and goals that target an individuals;s strengths and weaknesses, often thereby encouraging more learner ownership over the learning experience  
infographic a graphic, visual representation of information, data, and knowledge  
student response system a personal device that allows students to interact with lessons and participate in real-time polling and assessment

learning management system a platform for the administration, documentation, delivery, tracking, and reporting of online learning activities  
meme a virally-transmitted cultural symbol or social idea  
mobile learning learning methods and materials that involve the use of mobile phones or handheld devices; capitalize on the notion "just in time" learning and learning "anytime, anywhere"  
online learning an Internet-based course in which 80 percent or more of the instruction is conducted online, the teacher and the student are separated by distance or time or both and two-way communication is required between teacher and student  
QR Code (quick response) a type of barcode that when scanned takes the user to a URL, displays text, or contains other information  
social bookmarking an online service the enables users to add, annotate, edit, and share bookmarks of websites or documents  
social media forms of electronic communication through which users create online communities to share information, ideas, personal messages, and other content Twitter, Edmodo, Facebook
spam electronic junk mail or junk newsgroup postings  
synchronous online learning real-time learning where instructors and learners participate in instant two-way communication  
troll a person starts arguments or upsets people by posting inflammatory, unnecessary, or off-topic messages in an online community with the deliberate intent of provoking readers into an emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion
